"CARE MINISTERS C-O-N-N-E-C-T"
A welcome conversation or shared cup of coffee may brighten someone's day! The connection between a Care Minister and a Care Receiver can be a gratifying relationship. Just read and "listen" to these personal thoughts shared by several of our Care Ministers...
.... "The Care Ministry is a very rewarding and fulfilling ministry. I receive more than I give. As a Care Minister, I take time to sit, listen and respond to the needs of another. This sharing reflects my commitment and STM's commitment to care for the elderly. Bringing communion, giving a hug or just listening to the wonderful stories is very special. I make a difference by bringing Jesus' hands and heart to another."
.... "I have been involved in the Care Ministry program since its inception about 2 1/2 years ago. I have been fortunate to have the same "90+" lady for the whole time. She was not trusting of me in the beginning -- but when I mentioned that Fr. Falk sent me, I was in! She has macular degeneration, as my Mom does, so I could relate to her condition. My ministry involves taking her to weekend Mass but we have also gone to Healing Masses, the Widows & Widower's Group and just visiting. My lady is sharp, has a great sense of humor and is appreciative of any little thing done for her. I so enjoy her and find that I receive more from her than I am able to give."
.... "There is an anonymous prayer that begins, "It only takes one smile to offer welcome... and blessed be the person who will share it." I have been a Care Minister for the last 2 1/2 years and I have found it very rewarding. I visit a wonderful lady once a month. We share so much with each other and have become good friends. As a compassionate listener, I am able to offer God's love and assurance that He is always with us, even in difficult times. I feel blessed to have this opportunity to pray together and bring Holy Communion when my Care Receiver cannot attend Mass. I would definitely encourage others to consider becoming a Care Minister."
.... "The Care Ministry has been a special blessing for me. In the beginning of my ministry I visited a loving, faith-filled couple married for 69 years. With a listening heart, helping hand, healing hug and cheerful smile I gained two loving friends. Then six months ago, God called His faithful servant home, a special man, beloved husband, loving father, compassionate and caring friend who is missed deeply by all. Yet my blessings continue -- as his wife's Care Minister. Listening, caring, sharing and praying for each other, I continue to receive more from her than I give."
